Open Evening

A new village hall for Fradswell!

Last July many people attended the Open Evening at which the village hall committee outlined its plans to build a new village hall on the Parish Field. Since then we have been working hard on researching funding sources and gathering the evidence necessary to support the applications.

However, alongside that we have also entered into discussions with Max Reeves on behalf of the landlords of the site on which the village hall stands. Mr Reeves has reiterated his family's long standing offer that if we are successful in raising funds to build a new village hall on the existing site they will gift us the freehold of the land.

We have considered this offer very carefully as a village hall committee and have agreed that we wish to progress this offer. While we recognise that the parish field is a good site for a new hall, we believe that a rebuild in the current location is a better option, because:

1. It is closer to the 'centre' of the village
2. The scheme will be significantly cheaper, primarily due to not having to pay an exorbitant amount to bring power and other services onto the parish field

We therefore intend to take up the offer from the landlords and are now focussing our efforts on applying for outline planning permission, making funding applications and carrying out local fundraising.

This decision in no way affects the future of the Parish Field which remains as a wonderful facility owned by the whole village.

If you have any views on this decision we would love to hear from you. You can call Malcolm on 270297, or Barry on 502358

'Target £20k'

Part of our fundraising for the project involves raising £20,000 from local sources.

We are focussing on five ways to raise this money:

1. Through asking Fradswell residents to 'Adopt a Brick' in the new hall

2. Through recruiting 'Friends of Fradswell' from outside the immediate community, and asking them to consider a donation

3. By seeking other local donations, from individuals and businesses

4. Through a series of specific fundraising events.

5. By planning other fund raising activities

So far, thanks to your efforts we have already raised over £5600 - thank you!

If you would like to donate or get involved please contact any of the core team below.

Quotes from the Open Evening 14 July 2011

'Being a scattered rural community with no facilities such as a pub, shop etc. the village hall is the centre of our village life. A new village hall is much needed and will provide many of the facilities that we need. The Parish Council fully support the project and will do everything it can to promote its success.'

'I can't wait to see the new village hall, the plans are great, just hope we can find a way to raise all that money. Really pleased to see so many people at the Open Evening, just shows that Fradswell does have a community spirit! If we all work together we can do this.'

'Seems wonderful to see how much can be achieved when everybody gets together. All the ideas are coming together with great aspects of design showing. I think that with everybody's help and pulling together this can happen. All the greatest respect for all the people that are working so hard for the good of the village.'

'It's so important that we have a new village hall. A new village hall will appeal to a wider audience.'

'It would be nice to see it go through, it would be used more. I would like to be more involved.'

'Tonight is the most comprehensive outline I have seen of what Fradswell wants to do. For a small village there is a huge reawakening of community interest.'

'A long overdue project. Once it opened it would attract lots of age groups, from playgroups to OAPs activities. I'm sure it will be a great success.'

'Very good project, well worthwhile.'
